Emergency & Fire Services
Flagstaff Regional Emergency Services Society (FRESS)
The communities within the county of Flagstaff have joined together to create an organization that will oversee the management and continuity of fire services within the area. Flagstaff Regional Emergency Services Society (FRESS) is overseen by Regional Fire Chief, Derek Homme, but allows for each fire hall to continue to house its own Fire Chief. Ultimately, this amalgamation ensures that all volunteer fire fighters are trained accordingly and that access to proper equipment is available to all residents - should they ever need it.
FRESS has assumed the roll of administrator and will be responsible for all fire burning and fire pit permits within Flagstaff County. For these forms, or just for some additional information on FRESS, please see their website by clicking on the link below.
The Town of Killam is extremely fortunate to host one of the finest volunteer fire departments in the County! The Department is always interested in signing on new volunteer members. This may be your opportunity to provide your community with fire suppression, fire prevention, and emergency and rescue responses. No previous experience necessary and training is provided.
If you are interested, attend a Fire Hall meeting on the First and Third Wednesday of each month. For more information on how you can help the fire department, please call Chief Joe Knievel at (780) 385-1014.
Training Opportunities
This was a training exercise held recently to help volunteers practice their firefighting skills!

EMS is provided by Alberta Health Services. Killam houses two Ambulances that service Killam and the surrounding area. An Ambulance Bay is currently located at the Killam General Hospital as well as the Killam Fire Hall.
The Alberta RCMP supports community engagement by providing the public with the tools, resources and information they need to uphold public safety - for themselves and for their communities. A new online map enables the Alberta RCMP to share current criminal incidents with members of the communities they serve across Alberta. The RCMP hope that the map will help encourage citizens to report suspicious activity to the police, strengthening their intelligence-gathering capability and helping them make arrests. This interactive map is posted on the Flagstaff County webpage, clicking the map below will take you to it.
