With all the phone calls to the Town Office, it is very clear that our local skunks are really loving all the amendities that Killam has to offer! Should you need a skunk trap, the Town does have them available (but there may be a wait list!). Please call the Office at 780-385-3977.
Some tips to help keep skunks AWAY from your property include:
1. Keep pet food indoors and secure garbage cans. Food remains the greatest pull for wildlife (coyotes included!). If possible, store your trash bins indoors at night, so the smell won't attract our furry neighbors.
2. Remove fruit that has fallen from your trees, especially those that produce berries, crab apples or nuts. Pick them as soon as they ripen and be sure to rake your yard as often as necessary.
3. Skunks don't make their own shelters. They rely on dens and burrows that they can find, either from other wildlife, or holes that lead under elevated homes, decks, sheds, porches and foundations. Use gravel, fencing or plywood to seal all holes and entrance points to locations that a skunk may think could be used as a new "home"!
Public Works will be flushing the hydrants in Killam, once tempertures improve.
Residents may experience a drop in water pressure, or slight discolouration, during this process. If you find that pressure does not resume shortly after the flush is completed in your area, please notify the Town Office at 780-385-3977 or Public Works at 780-385-3783.1234567891011121314151617181920212223242526272829
