Following the Ignite Tour in December, the ACE Committee (Made up of a portion of the 90 committments made from those present at Ian Hill's presentation!) had the tremendous job of choosing a project that would represent the direction the members of the community of the Town of Killam would like to go. After a series of meetings and consultations, the team agreed on the enhancement of Heritage Park, a project that had the ability to positively impact the largest cross section of community members.
Some of the new and exciting plans the Committee is hoping to bring to the Park include: the relocation of the tennis courts, constructing a skate board park, building an amphitheatre and creating a better, wider walking path for park users. Planting of additional trees and improved landscaping of flower beds and playgrounds will be included with the renovations plans.
With plans falling into place for the renovations of the park, the next biggest hurdle being faced is the financing of the project. The first big fund raiser held featured "The Sixties Band" Supper, Dance and Silent Auction - not to mentionthe unveiling of the Heritage Park revitalization plans.
Once again, supporters of the ACE Initiative came through with flying colors!
And as it turns out...
Killam never really left the 60's!!!

Thanks to the 240 volunteers who committed to reviving Heritage Park! Some of the projects that were tackled during the day included: the start of the construction of the Amphitheatre and Bike Park, building picnic tables and horseshoe pits, relocating and widening the walking trail, planting trees, moving the gazebo, repairing and painting the bridges, and sprucing up the existing landscape features. Organizers of the event did a fantastic job planning; the people within the community of Killam took it upon themselves to make it happen! This is what Community is all about!
